My name is María Isabel Sánchez, and I am pursuing a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, where I also earned my bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering this year. I am passionate about the intersection of technology and design, and my past experiences and commitment to learning drive my excitement for this field. I highly value teamwork, innovation and leadership in both my academics and personal life.
In my academic journey, I have focused on hands-on practical courses. A highlight of this was my capstone project, where my team and I created a device capable of administering highly viscous medications using a CO2 gas-assist mechanism. Our successful device met both engineering and user requirements, earning us the Henry O. Fuchs Memorial Award for the best capstone team of our graduating class.
Last fall, I completed a course on Human-Centered Design, which sparked my passion for UI/UX design. My team and I designed a language-learning application for immersive experiences. Through heuristic evaluations, experience prototyping, and user feedback testing, we won the Most Novel Design Award in a class of 150+ students, highlighting our dedication to innovation.
To complement my academic experience, I interned at Callaway Golf's Prototype Team, where I designed fixtures, club faces, and my own putter. Through these experiences in prototyping and ideation, I learned and improved on my technical skills and creativity.
Leadership is a key value of mine. As President of Stanford Club Golf, I led a team of over 80 students, managing our budget, strategic decisions, and external affairs. Under my leadership, our club has doubled in size annually since conception, demonstrating my determination and passion for leading. I incorporate all of these skills and values into my work ethic.
